ABOUT ANXIETY

WHAT IF YOUR ANXIETY WAS A CALL TO LIVE?

The signs of anxiety can vary from person to person.  It can range from a crippling fear that prevents someone from going outside for days to another having panic attacks seemingly randomly at a work meeting.  What is common is the inability to take support from the environment.  In the anxious moment - the person is lost, isolated and alone.  It’s hard for others to reach them and reassure them. The anxious person forgets about their body, the space around them, and they even forget to breathe.   They are lost in their nervous system response. This can become an on-going nightmare.

My anxiety treatment is a two-sided approach.

WELCOME TO YOUR BODY

Through therapy I introduce you back-to-your body.  I teach an active-form of mindfulness that helps you learn to regulate yourself in anxious moments.  By becoming curious about your body and it’s responses, you learn how to self-support yourself when the unknown happens.  I work with awareness of breath and track in real time your responses in our session - to help you develop practical and customised tools for use in the real-world.

LISTEN TO THE ALARM

For me, anxiety is often, childhood pain and trauma still active in adult bodies.  The pain gets activated when present-day life reminds us of our past. The body remembers the old hurt and  the anxiety starts - this can happen so fast that we’re not even aware we’re caught in a time-warp. Therapy becomes the work of honouring and burying old pain.  In this process, as you learn to support yourself through the anxious moment and clear away the past, you learn to listen to the potential warning and wisdom your anxiety may have about life-today. Maybe your anxiety is telling you something about your relationship, your job, your current-living situation?
